There is a lot of reading material out there to help you prepare for your new bundle....here are some of the things they do NOT cover in those books:
- baby boys can get erections. (o_0) Yup. This was startling to me when I first witnessed it.
- the amount of poop/pee that can come out of the little darling. This astounds me still. And invest in pee-pee teepee's.
- They never told us after discharged from the hospital that if you circumsize, make sure you gently but completely pull the skin down so it does not REATTACH ITSELF TO THE PENIS!! We are going through this now, with much frustration and will need to go to a specialist for something stupid that could have been prevented!!
-If you have a gut feeling about an ailment for your newborn, always trust that instinct!
My advise is ask AS MANY QUESTIONS as possible before they discharge you from the hospital. Make a list prior to also ask any pediatricians you may "interview". We were lucky in the sense that one of the visiting Pedia's doing rounds at the hospital, we liked and now see her.

Partner bond
These last 7+ months have made me realize that if you do NOT have a strong bond with your partner prior to having a child(ren) your relationship will FAIL.
I Thank GOD every day for my husband. Carlos puts up with a lot of my crap (Mood swings, depression, frustration, happy, sad, horny, "don't-touch-me", kisses, snuggles, and everything in between).
Our son is teething like a monster right now. His bottom two are through, and his top right will break through in the next 3-4 days, even with the tip already through his gums, the tooth is not all the way out. The teething rail we got it awesome!! Here is a photo and the link:

Kidkusion Gummi Crib Rail
Now he chomps on us (that is our fault, it is just soo darn cute when he does it!) but when he chomps on our 73 year old neighbor, I am slightly embarrassed.
My advice to any couple (married or other) should make sure their bond and understanding of each other, tolerance of emotional blow ups and understanding of being put "second, not on purpose" is truly unshatterable. If there is any fault line in any of the above areas, it will get MUCH WORSE when baby arrives. I am blessed to stay at home with my son, but it is a blessing and a cause for my frustration at the same time. He is not bounced around to caretakers at a Daycare, he is with just myself through the day, and not exposed to germs. I cannot get anything done around the house. For instance I did laundry yesterday and by doing so, was unable to pump. My supply has been waining for the last month+ however I have been trying to re-establish it by pumping frequently throughout the day. We hardly have time to make love since Jesus is so active (and my husband works 50+ hours a week). I am too paranoid to leave him with anyone for us to have a "date night". Plus he is a member of our family, not a "dog to be left with a relative".
How do you handle the trials of motherhood??

The infinite "Get-nothing-done"ness
Since our son is more active, I no longer get a whole lot done. It took me almost a week to wash bottles, however re-washing the same two I had been using.
And another awesome thing Xavier is doing- chewing on the crib rails. He has two bottom teeth and he will stand and CHEW on the railing. I asked some mommy friends if their children did this, and most has said not. So a crib rail guard has been ordered since he has put teeth marks into the crib. (!!!!!!!)
I never assumed this would be easy, but its proving more and more difficult. I have turned into this complaining mass of disorganization and anger. I do NOT like who I've become. I am trying to do more "me" things. I just finished polishing my nails. But I think I need a lunch away with my sister. The complaining has inadvertantly put a stress on my husband which I do not mean to cause. Just the overwhelming feeling of stress and helplessness are coming up. :(
But there isn't anything in the world that would be equivalent to my son. Such a smiley happy dude. This little giggling mass of joy and hope. His smile warms my heart and soul soo deeply.
